What's Right With Ponca City - Tourism

ECONOMIC VALUE
Tourism is funded by a bed tax paid by visitors staying overnight in local motels – NOT by its residents.
Currently Ponca City has 693 motel rooms, on an average of $69 per night, generating $48,000 per night or $336,000 per week or $17,472,000 per year! Motel stays generate over $20 million annually.
Ponca City Tourism works closely with OK Department of Tourism promoting Ponca City and its attractions as a destination, domestically and internationally. A remarkable increase of 9.74% in lodging tax revenues from 2007 and 2008, with visitor numbers increasing from 15,934 to 28,918 – an 81% increase to Ponca City’s economy.
Overnight stays with motorcoach tours have increased in the past 4 years from 1 in a 14-month period to 4 in the past 6 months! A 2-night stay with 3 days of tours generate approximately $230 per person, per day. A motorcoach with 56 people spend $38,640 in just 3 days.
An August, 2009 booking confirms 225 tourists will arrive in 4 motorcoaches to spend the day and attend the 50th anniversary of the 101 Wild West Rodeo, at $115 per person to equal $25,875. More motorcoaches for this and other events are expected!
