2009-10 Fiscal Budget: Continued cost-effective government
operations with a proposed budget of approximately $87 million, over
$1 million less than last year’s budget. |

Grants:
Working on approximately $6.5 million in grant funding for community
projects - housing demolitions, safe rooms, weather radios, home
buyer assistance, special services assistance for replacement and
upgrade of utilities, law enforcement, and multipurpose Senior
Center improvements. |
 |
Stimulus
Funding: Formed an Economic Recovery Working Group to responsibly
bring citizen tax dollars back to Ponca City through the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The City is applying for over $10
million in stimulus funding for community improvements and
enhancements. |

INVESTING IN PONCA CITY |

Ponca City Aquatic & Family Center – YMCA: Cooperative
effort to provide recreational services, including:
competitive and family swim areas, whirlpool, steam and
sauna room, rock climbing wall, indoor basketball
courts, workout rooms & equipment, 1/8 mile elevated
indoor walking track, kids-zone, tournament quality
softball and youth baseball fields, multi-use fields for
youth sports. Expected to be in operation by November,
2010 with the ball fields in operation by the 2011
season. |

Capital Improvement Projects: Over $50 million in
capital improvement projects completed or constructed
during the last two years, including equipment,
facilities, infrastructure and utilities. |

Street Improvement Projects: Completed $1.4 million in
street improvement sales tax reconstruction/capital
projects on Donahoe
Dr., Highland Ave., McGraw Dr., 14th St. and Ash St. Currently, over
$2.4 million in additional street projects is scheduled for Pecan
Rd. and Hartford Ave. |

IMPLEMENTING GREEN INITIATIVES |
 |
Honeywell Project: Implemented an advanced metering infrastructure
and energy-efficiency program, targeting HVAC, street light and
traffic light improvements, which will improve utility services,
reduce energy and operating spending, and reduce environmental
impact on the environment. |

Ponca City Wi-Fi: Providing “Ponca City Free Wi-Fi” to
Ponca City residents and businesses using a Wi-Fi
enabled device. |
 |
Recycling Center: Providing residents an area to recycle
newspaper, magazines, aluminum cans, glass, cardboard,
useable latex paint, and batteries at the Recycling
Center located at 1001 W. Prospect Ave. |
 |
Storm Water: Meeting Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality and Federal Emergency Management
Authority requirements to prevent polluted stormwater from entering in the storm system that
discharges into rivers and streams. Remember, “Only rain, in the
drain!” |
 |
Community Events: On-going education efforts include
“Household Hazardous Waste Day,” “Earth Day” and “Arbor
Day.” |

Safety First: The mission of the Police Department is to work with
all citizens to promote safety, preserve life, maintain human
rights, protect property, and encourage individual responsibility
and community commitment. Part 1 crimes dramatically declined from
2007 to 2008. |

Ponca City Utility Authority: Average Monthly Payment,
Bank Drafts, Automatic Credit Card Payments, Senior
Citizen Discounts, Twice-A-Week Solid Waste Service, and
Locally Owned and Operated Ponca City Energy, which
provides significantly lower electric rates than
neighboring cities. |

Comprehensive Plan: A framework for guiding future
development, redevelopment, and community enhancement
and planning over the next 20 years and beyond. The
purpose is to establish a vision with realistic goals
and achievable strategies, which residents,
business/land owners, institutions/civic groups,
advisory committees and public officials will support
with action in the future. |
