Senior Center Houses Variety Of Programs
The Senior Center of Ponca City, 319 West Grand, houses three new programs
for seniors and are excellent resources.
In July of 2000, RSVP teamed up with the City of Ponca City to develop a
first rate senior center. Wheatheart Nutrition serves a noon meal Monday through
Friday. Reservations are required a day prior to allow for meal preparations. A
donation of $1.75 is suggested. For reservations call 580-767-1620.
Activities at the Senior Center include weekly crafts and games of pool,
cards, dominoes,, as well as Friday evening pitch groups. Exercise equipment and
classes are available in the recreation room as well as an inviting table to
gather and work puzzles. A sitting area is available with a big screen
television. Regularly scheduled entertainment is provided and a monthly covered
dish dinner, which has proven very successful with attendance usually around 100
people.
Computer classes are also ongoing in the newly developed computer lab.
The RSVP staff oversees the center and schedules activities.

RSVP Facts
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) offers senior adults age 55 and
older the opportunity to share life skills through volunteer service.
RSVP volunteers serve in all 50 states, and serve a variety of organizations.
Kay County has 54 volunteer stations. RSVP volunteers serve without
compensation. Supplemental insurance protection is provided to volunteers while
on assignments.
RSVP hosts a monthly volunteer food share program for the Ponca City
community for citizens of all ages. RSVP volunteer opportunities include
mentoring, adult basic education, tax aides, meal delivery, as well as many
other services.
RSVP volunteers contributed 92,500 volunteer hours to the Kay County area
during 2001. Currently, RSVP has a volunteer pool of 497 area senior adults.
