American Red Cross Serves Counties
The Ponca City Chapter of the American Red Cross was chartered in 1917. The
chapter serves eastern Kay, northern Noble, Osage and Pawnee counties.
Trained volunteers provide emergency services in disaster and communications
for military families, health and safety, youth and senior programs. An
invitation to volunteer is extended to every member of the community. Volunteers
are trained to provide services locally as well as throughout the United States.
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency
disaster-caused needs on a case by case basis. When a disaster threatens or
strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health
services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core
of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families
affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities
independently.
American Red Cross Emergency Services are available to all members of the
armed services, and to their families. Both active duty and community-based
military can count on the Red Cross to provide emergency communications,
emergency financial assistance, counseling, veterans assistance and aid in the
field where Red Cross workers are deployed to serve with America's military.
The chapter offers courses in CPR and First Aid the second Saturday of each
month. Additional courses in Babysitting, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Life
guarding, and Water Safety are scheduled when there is a demand.
Presentations and brochures are available on many subjects including disaster
preparedness and recovery, safety, mental health, health issues, child care, and
blood, bone marrow, tissue and organ donation.
The Ponca City Chapter of the American Red Cross is partially funded by the
United Way of Ponca City and depends upon the generosity of the communities we
serve.
