Pioneer Technology BIS Program Offers Support
The Pioneer Technology Center's Business and Industry Services (BIS)
program has been offering support to area business, industries, and clients for
more than two decades. With an increase in customized client-based training, as
well as computer software training, the BIS division is offering customers and
clients a full-range of educational and training programs through classes,
workshops and seminars.
The BIS division, under the direction of Vance Johnson, consists
of nine different client-based and training pro-grams that include,
self-employment training, small business management, agriculture business
management, bid assistance, management development group, safety training,
industry training, business incubator, and adult training and development
(short-term training) programs.
"Flexibility is what the BIS division is all about," stated
Johnson. "Training can be at our facility or the customer's facility depending
on their needs. Whether our customers are needing help with their business or
needing training on the latest software, we will work with them to implement a
training program that fits their unique needs."
Through the adult training and development program, more than
300 courses are available ranging from a few hours to complete semester
offerings.
Other courses available through the adult training and
development program include, emergency medical technician, machine tool,
welding, certified nurse aide, cake decorating, as well as many more. Johnson
further stated that the new class schedules will be available for mailing at the
end of July and that a complete listing of courses could be accessed on the
Pioneer Technology Center's homepage at
www.pioneertech.org.
The Self-Employment Training program offers assistance and
guidance to individuals interested in starting their own business, managing a
new business, or evaluating a current business or business idea. These classes
meet in the evening for eleven weeks and features one-on-one consultation for up
to six months.
The Management Development Coordinator program pro-vides
training, support, and consulting services for human resource development. This
training for management level personnel includes: strategic planning, team
building, organizational management, inter-personal & communication skills.
Industry Training is custom tailored to satisfy the training
requirements of businesses throughout Pioneer Technology Center's district.
Programs can be customized to fulfill industry specific provisions or clients
can select from a number of established courses ranging from safety to human
relations courses. These training programs are held on the Pioneer Tech campus,
the client's facility, or other appropriate locations. Pioneer Technology
Center's Industry Training is a direct contact for the state funded Training for
Industry Program (TIP).
Pioneer Tech's Safety Training offers:
Safety consultation, training, development services that are
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year!
Some of the topics include Asbestos Awareness, Confined Space,
Hazard Communication, Lifting Safety, Blood borne Pathogens, Electrical Safety,
Ergonomics, Fall Protection Forklift Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Personal Protective
Equipment, CPR, and First Aid.
The Small Business Management program works to benefit small
business owners and managers by helping to improve their business and management
skills. The pro-gram offers evening classes as well as individual assistance at
Pioneer Tech or the client's place of business. Small Business Management is
client driven; therefore, classes and one-on-one assistance reflect the needs of
the client. Other aspects of the program include a wealth of reference material,
handouts and personalized projects. The level of learning is determined by each
participant's application of new knowledge and skills to his or her previously
identified needs. The purpose of this program is to help participants become
more knowledgeable and competitive in the business arena.
The Bid Assistance Center serves as a complete resource for
companies, corporations or individuals wanting to bid on federal, state, county,
and city contracts, as well as private sector contracts. This program is a joint
project of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education (ODCTE),
Pioneer Technology Center, and the Department of Defense.

of Oklahoma Bids.
The Agricultural Business Management Offers farm families a
variety of services including record keeping, goal planning, inventory and
depreciation scheduling, financial statement, cash flow projections, farm
planning and analysis, marketing and tax planning by individual instructions,
and farm visits, and evening classes.
Business Incubator
The Pioneer Technology Center's Business Incubator
provides a wide variety of ser-vices with the intent of fostering the growth of
small start-up businesses by helping them to survive and thrive. The main goal
of the incubator is to pro-duce successful and viable businesses within two to
three years.
The Pioneer Technology Center's incubator has seven
manufacturing spaces ranging from 800-1,800 square feet with an additional
office space of about 100 square feet. All
spaces contain an overhead door, water, individual heat and air, electrical
outlets, 220 wiring, and compressed air. Incubator tenants are also eligible for
leases on both the bays and offices with graduated payment plans. The incubator
program works primarily with three different clients, service, light
manufacturing and wholesale.
The Pioneer Technology Center currently has three businesses in
the incubator.
