Child Development Center Is Home Away From Home
There is a wonderful place for the young in the Ponca City community where
the joyous sounds of children can be heard. Today's children have great
opportunities for growth and development, and the Child Development Center is
just the place — to grow that is!
The Child Development Center is a home away from home for young children
ranging in ages 6 weeks to 6 years or kindergarten. The center offers all the
comforts of home and more.
"In this day of age when it takes two to work to support a family, it's nice
to know that you can go to work with peace of mind knowing that your children
are being well taken care of," one parent commented.
To operate a quality early childhood program is a giant undertaking. Caring
for some-one's children is an awesome responsibility. The center has always gone
to great lengths to ensure parents that their children will be treated with love
and respect and given the best early childhood program we can provide. Security
plays one of the most important roles in a young child's life so, daily
consistent schedules and good lesson planning by staff help make a qualify
program.
This nonprofit center has many supporters who believe in its mission, which
states:
The Board and Staff of the Child Development Center will provide: An affordable
and high quality early childhood pro-gram; A safe and nurturing environment;
Hands-on develop-mentally appropriate learning experiences; Spiritual
development and moral guidance consistent with Christian tenets; Opportunities
for physical, emotional, cognitive and social development.
A single mom made this statement, "One day I found myself a single parent of
two young boys, taking a position with a new company and trying to maintain a
former two-income household budget on less than half. For several years, through
the United Way of Ponca City, I had been aware of the Child Development Center.
I contacted them to see what services were available to my children, if any. I
was thrilled to learn that they could help me by providing quality care in a
loving and learning environment, and it would be affordable.
"The management and staff do a great job of providing good quality childcare
in a nurturing and learning environment. They wrestle with real life problems
daily. They strive to stay within budget. Every dollar is used to its
fullest — there is no fluff in their budget."
A day at the center consists of children making decisions, using cognitive
and reasoning skills, building self-help skills, learning conflict resolution
thus gaining social skills, using simple math concepts.
Teachers use language building activities often during the day through use of
pictures, listening tapes, large picture books with simple words, open ended
stories, flannel stories, and finger plays.
Quiet and active times are rotated often so children can relax and have their
own time. Children's choice of activities using learning centers is vital to
their learning and creativity.
The Child Development Center provides an excellent food and nutrition program
for all the children. Meals are on a 6-week cycle for variety and allows for
ethnic tastes.
This 2 Star facility provides tuition rates based on family size and income,
and welcomes children who qualify for DHS child care assistance. This year-long
service operates Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Child
Development Center is a United Way member agency.
