Ponca City History Tid-Bits - Index
JO SAYLORS, "Since childhood when I dug clay from a creek bank to form figures to dry in the sun, I have been intrigued with form. The act of taking a lump of clay and shaping it into something that will express emotions and elicit a response from observers holds a continuing fascination for me. The intensity with which a child concentrates on something, is what I want to express."
Jo Saylors was 12 years old when she won her first art competition, an early beginning for this Tennessee-born lady who has exhibited for the National Audubon Society and the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institute. Her subject matter ranges from wildlife and western to historical figures, but it is her children that receive greater recognition. Her outdoor sculpture can be found in libraries, hospitals, financial institutions and museums throughout America and eight foreign countries. BACK TO HISTORY TID-BITS INDEX
