School Board Calls For May 12 Election

The Ponca City Board of Education approved propositions Monday night which call for an election on May 12 for building and transportation bonds.

 

The proposals are for a series of three new bond issues, which would not result in an increase in taxes.


The series of bonds would be issued from 2010 to 2012, with $6,050,000 issued in June 2010; $4,515,000 issued in June 2011 and $6,160,000 issued in June 2012.


Voters will be asked to approve $16,225,000 in building bonds and $500,000 in transportation bonds.


The first series of building bonds will be used for:

  • Technology, textbooks and security;
  • Roof repair and replacement; replacement of heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and an energy management system at Liberty Elementary School;
  • New floor coverings at Lincoln Elementary School;
  • Renovation and remodeling of the classroom area for instrumental music and chorus at West Middle School and replacing the HVAC system;
  • Repairing and replacing roof and acquiring and installing an energy management system at the Administrative Center on West Grand Avenue;
  • Renovation, repair and remodeling the Ponca City Fieldhouse to restore the exterior, tuck pointing of exterior brick, replacing windows and new sidewalks.
  • Renovation and remodeling the Ponca City High School Howell Building’s home economics classroom area and installing new cabinets, counter tops, appliances and floor coverings;
  • Renovation, repair and remodeling the lobby, administrative offices and rest rooms at Robson Fieldhouse including new floor coverings, repairing and updating rest rooms and paint.

The second series of building bonds will be used for:

  • Technology and textbooks;
  • Repair and replacement of roofs and HVAC system and installation of an energy management system at the Alternative School;
  • Repair or replacement of the roof at the Ponca City High School Anderson Building;
  • Repair and replacement of the roof and HVAC system at the Ponca City High School Howell Building;
  • Renovation and remodeling the front entry of West Middle School to expand and relocate the administrative offices.

The third series of building bonds will be used for:

  • Technology, textbooks, security cameras, instrumental music equipment and repair or replacement of the roof at the Ponca City High School Fine Arts Building;
  • Renovation and remodeling of the Ponca City High School Math and Science wing including wainscoting and upgrading the electrical system;
  • Replacing floor coverings at Liberty Elementary School;
  • Renovating and remodeling rest rooms at Liberty, Trout and Woodlands Elementary Schools;
  • Renovating and remodeling dressing rooms at West Middle School;
  • Construction of additional facilities at the Baseball Field including a concessions stand, rest room and press box;
  • Repairing or replacing the roof at Robson Fieldhouse;
  • Phase 1 renovation and remodeling of the East Grand Administration building, including removal of asbestos, removal of walls, insulation, electrical, plumbing, doors and HVAC.
